Synopsis
Belgrade, 1914. Three hungry young men are offered something to eat (and the chance to change history). Their mission: kill Archduke Franz Ferdinand and set the century alight.
★★★★ ‘Pitch-black farce…. Immensely topical, delivered with enormous flair… A masterpiece of design’ Financial Times
★★★★ ‘A delicious cackle in the dark… acerbic, often very funny’ Time Out
★★★★ ‘A lingering delight… blackly comic’ The Times
★★★★ ‘Rajiv Joseph’s tragicomic reimagining graduates with high honours… spectacular’ The Guardian
★★★★ ‘Gloriously zany… A fizzing, occasionally eye-popping, production by director Lyndsey Turner… wonderfully imaginative’ The Arts Desk
Sharp, funny and dangerously timely, Archduke is a thrilling new production for an age of restless young men.
Leading the cast are stars of stage, screen and comedy: Olivier Award winner Chris Walley (The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Young Offenders), Abraham Popoola (Shiver), Stanley Morgan (The Little Foxes), Janice Connolly (Phoenix Nights, Mrs Barbara Nice) and British Comedy Award winner Marc Wootton (Nativity!, Till The Stars Come Down).
From Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph (Guards at the Taj, Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo), Lyndsey Turner (The Crucible, 1536) directs this European premiere, designed by Es Devlin (The Lehman Trilogy).
This production has been supported by a lead gift from Charles Holloway OBE.
