Synopsis

A remote town in Serbia

Kata feels trapped in a wheelchair due to multiple sclerosis. The play’s setting is the claustrophobic confines of her room in a remote Serbian town. Kata’s fierce desire for autonomy clashes with her mother Mina’s conflicting loyalties between Kata and her new family. As Kata struggles for recognition and freedom, Mina grapples with societal judgment and her own maternal guilt.

This one-act play, rich in raw, emotive dialogue, unearths themes of disability, familial duty, and social inequality. The linear narrative intensifies the emotional journey, portraying a stark, vivid reality of life with chronic illness and the fraught dynamics within a family under pressure. The dark comedy elements bring a sharp, poignant edge to this powerful exploration of resilience and human spirit.
