Synopsis

In a cold, isolated cabin, the mundane and the bizarre intertwine as four people grapple with an enigmatic crisis.

Shooter, Jeep, Liza, and Lupe are trapped in a house on Christmas after an unspecified catastrophic event has thrown the world into chaos. The characters perform ordinary tasks like drinking coffee and cooking a turkey, yet their actions are tinged with an unsettling absurdity. The men, with their shaven heads, seem like stage humanoids, succumbing to fits and fears, while the women engage in routine domestic activities. The play oscillates between moments of eerie normalcy and surreal disturbances, highlighting the characters’ attempts to maintain a semblance of normal life in the face of an incomprehensible reality.

Shepard’s play is a stark exploration of isolation and the human psyche under duress. The tension between the characters and their surreal behavior reflect the existential dread and disconnection that pervade their environment. Action captures the essence of Shepard’s ability to blend the familiar with the bizarre, creating a haunting atmosphere that leaves the audience questioning the nature of reality and the human condition.
