Synopsis
Alejandro and Carla’s home, once a sanctuary, becomes a pressure cooker for simmering tensions and unspoken fears. The story begins with Alejandro’s seemingly benign concern over a bruise on Carla’s hand and a missed phone call, small details that soon reveal much darker undercurrents. As they converse, the facade of their everyday life cracks open, exposing Carla’s recent traumatic encounter with a violent student. This incident is more than just a physical assault; it is a profound emotional and psychological blow that shatters Carla’s sense of safety and self.
The play delves deep into themes of vulnerability, isolation, and the arduous journey towards mutual understanding. Carla’s narrative of the school assault is not just a recounting of events but a poignant metaphor for her inner turmoil and feelings of entrapment. Alejandro, despite his earnest attempts to connect and support her, finds himself grappling with Carla’s guarded and fragmented responses, reflecting the often insurmountable chasm that trauma can create between loved ones. The dialogue, sparse yet loaded with unspoken emotions, combined with stark, poignant imagery, brings to life the rawness of their pain and confusion.
