Sophocles was an ancient Greek tragedian. He authored around 120 plays, with only seven surviving in full, including the well known Oedipus Rex and Antigone. Sophocles introduced significant innovations to Greek theatre, such as the addition of a third actor and more complex character interactions. His works often explore themes of fate, free will, and the human condition.
