Nazareth Hassan

Nazareth Hassan is an interdisciplinary writer, director, and musician whose work spans a diverse range of forms, including scores, choreopoems, plays, instructions, collages, diagrams, and compositions. Their 2019 play Vantablack was selected for Theatertreffen Stückemarkt and developed further at the Royal Court Theatre. Hassan received the Dramatist Guild Young Playwright Award in 2017 and has since produced a range of projects that reflect their multifaceted approach. In 2021, their choral text Untitled (1-5) was commissioned by The Shed and later published by 3 Hole Press in 2022. Hassan’s solo performance Memory A was shown at Museo Universario del Arte Contemporaneo in Mexico City, and their play Bowl EP was longlisted for the Brentwood Prize and workshopped at The Vineyard Theatre.

Beyond playwriting, Hassan has worked as a sound designer and composer to productions such as The Trees at Playwrights Horizons and A Song of Songs at Bushwick Starr. In 2023 Hassan became a Jerome Hill Artist Fellow.
