Nassim Soleimanpour is a Berlin-based playwright and theatre maker from Tehran, Iran. He is known for his experimental and audience-focused works, often written to circumvent restrictions on his travel due to his refusal to complete compulsory military service. His debut play, White Rabbit Red Rabbit (2010), was designed to be performed without rehearsal, featuring a new actor each time, and has been staged worldwide in over 20 languages.
Soleimanpour’s subsequent works include Blind Hamlet (2014), which premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and Nassim (2017), a multilingual piece that encourages audience participation and premiered in Edinburgh before touring internationally. His writing often blurs the lines between performer and audience, engaging with themes of freedom, language, and identity. In 2024, Echo was performed at the Royal Court.
Soleimanpour is the Artistic Director of Berlin-based Nassim Soleimanpour Productions, a company founded to support his work and develop new theatrical projects. His plays have received multiple awards, including recognition at the Dublin Fringe Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and continue to be performed around the world.
Soleimanpour spoke to Susan Wokoma in S7 Ep6 of Playwright’s Podcast.
