Lilian Susel Zaldívar de los Reyes is a Cuban playwright and dramaturg with a background in Art History, earning her degree from the University of Oriente. She has worked extensively at Havana’s Theatre and Dance Centre and completed the Second National Seminar on Playwriting. As a graduate of the Royal Court Theatre’s workshop in Cuba, she participated in the International Residency for Emerging Playwrights in London in 2004, an opportunity sponsored by the same institution. That year, she was also invited to take part in the “Cuba Real” Playwriting Week in London.
Her play Naufragio de la fe (Shipwreck of Faith) was a finalist for the Virgilio Piñera Prize in 2004. In 2006, her play Retratos (Portraits) was awarded the Royal Court Theatre’s playwriting prize and premiered the same year by the Rita Montaner Company. Zaldívar currently serves as a dramaturgical advisor for the company.
