Leo Butler is a British playwright known for his often bleak examinations of contemporary life. After studying at the University of Birmingham, Butler worked as a script reader at the Royal Court Theatre, where his first major play, Redundant (2001), was staged. The play, which explores the alienation and disillusionment of young people in modern Britain, established Butler as a leading voice in British theatre. His subsequent works, such as Made of Stone (2011), often focus on marginalised characters navigating a rapidly changing social landscape. Butler’s minimalist style and focus on everyday struggles have earned him critical acclaim.
