Laura Wade is a British playwright known for her insightful social commentary, often focusing on issues of class, privilege, and gender. Wade rose to prominence with Posh (2010), a satire about the lives of wealthy Oxford students, inspired by the notorious Bullingdon Club. Staged at the Royal Court Theatre, Posh was widely praised for its sharp critique of the British elite and was later adapted into the film The Riot Club (2014). Wade’s work is often characterised by witty dialogue and her ability to explore societal structures with a balance of humour and seriousness.
Wade won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, and Wade for her play Home, I’m Darling (2018), which premiered at Theatr Clwyd before transferring to the National Theatre. She has been praised for her exploration of nostalgia, feminism, and the complexities of personal identity within the context of society.
