Dan Allum

Dan Allum is a British playwright, screenwriter, and founder of the Romany Theatre Company. Allum was born into a travelling family and spent his early years working in various trades, from landscape gardening to scrap metal dealing, to support his family. A turning point came in his teens when he taught himself to read, paving the way for higher education and a B.A. (Hons.) Degree.

Allum has since become an award-winning writer, with work spanning theatre, television, and radio. He has collaborated with major institutions such as the BBC, ITV, the National Theatre, the Royal Court Theatre, and the Royal Opera House. His plays often explore Romany culture, incorporating the Romani language to preserve and celebrate its heritage. Since founding the Romany Theatre Company in 2003, he has written, directed, and produced numerous original works that amplify Romany stories and voices.

In addition to his creative work, Allum is a sought-after public speaker, delivering talks for clients such as Microsoft, Shell, and the Royal Bank of Scotland. Drawing from his personal journey and unique insights, he inspires others to challenge limiting beliefs and pursue their goals with confidence and creativity.
