Ciara Elizabeth Smyth is an Irish playwright and screenwriter whose work has been widely staged, with productions at theatres including the Abbey Theatre, Fishamble, Dublin Fringe Festival, The Lyric Theatre in Belfast, Project Arts Centre, and the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. Her theatre commissions have included projects with Prime Cut Productions, Gúna Nua, and the Abbey Theatre, alongside television projects developed with Chapter One, Buccaneer Media, and Maia Pictures.
Her play Lie Low (2022) has been recognised with the Writers Guild of Ireland’s Best Theatre Script award and was a finalist for the BBC Writersroom Popcorn Award. Premiering at the Traverse Theatre during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Lie Low later toured internationally, with early stops at the Royal Court. The play has also been translated into Italian and adapted as an opera by composer Alex Dowling in collaboration with Irish National Opera.
