Annie Siddons is a British writer, performer, and dramaturg from South-East London. Her mother hails from Cairo, Egypt, with roots in Greece and the Middle East/North Africa, and her father is from Northampton, England.
In 2005, she wrote Rapunzel for Kneehigh Theatre, marking a significant milestone in her career. This production, directed by Emma Rice, premiered at Battersea Arts Centre in 2006 and toured extensively, including a run at the New Victory Theater in New York in 2008. The play has been remounted several times, notably at the Citizens Theatre in 2015 and the Watermill Theatre in 2022.
Siddons’ repertoire includes Nutcracker and Mouse King (2014) at the Unicorn Theatre, Momo (2014) adapted from Michael Ende’s book, and Ant and Hop (2019) at the Unicorn Theatre. Her autobiographical piece, How (Not) to Live in Suburbia, enjoyed sold-out runs at Soho Theatre between 2016 and 2018. Another notable work, Dennis of Penge (2018), was remounted at the Bridge House Theatre in Penge in 2023.
Beyond writing, Siddons has performed in various productions, including Kit Green’s immersive show The Home and Dear Elizabeth at the Gate Theatre in 2019. She has also ventured into stand-up comedy under the persona Karima Kay.
Her version of Cinderella was Derby Theatre’s Christmas show in 2023. Siddons continuously works on projects in theatre, prose, and television.
