Anja Hilling is a German playwright known for her evocative and poetic works that delve into human relationships and existential themes. Born in Lingen in 1975, she grew up in Munich and studied German literature and theatre studies at the Free University of Berlin. She further honed her craft by studying playwriting at the Berlin University of the Arts from 2002 to 2006. Her debut play, Sterne (Stars), premiered in 2003 and was invited to the Stückemarkt of the Berliner Theatertreffen, earning her the Dresdner Bank Prize for New Drama. Hilling’s subsequent works, including Mein junges idiotisches Herz (My Young Idiotic Heart) and Tristesse Animal Noir, have been staged in various German theatres. Additionally, she works on film projects with cinematographer Simona Sabato.
