Amber Hsu
Amber Hsu (徐碧莉//xúbìlì) is a Chinese-born, US-raised, UK-based writer, filmmaker, poet, and visual artist. She is a graduate of the Royal Court’s Unheard Voices Programme, The Royal Court Studio Group, and the BBC’s Writers Room London Voices group. She participated in a year-long, musical theatre lab residency run by the New Musical Development Collective in partnership with the Theatre Royal Stratford East and The Other Palace.
Hsu has written for the BBC, the Royal Court Theatre, Islington Youth Theatre, Orange Tree Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre Studio, and written and directed for Film London. She has also worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company to adapt a Chinese Classic.
Hsu is the creator of Tiny Pencil – an artist-led anthology art-zine project, and the inventor of One Pound Poems, a live poetry project.
She worked in a morgue for a period of time.
