Alan Francis Simpson OBE was a British scriptwriter best known for his comedy writing partnership with Ray Galton, whom he met at Milford Sanitorium in Surrey whilst recovering from tuberculosis. He began his alongside Galton career writing scripts for various comedians with the BBC.
In 1972, Simpson directed his own completed version of Richard’s Cork Leg, a draft by Brenden Beham.
He was appointed an OBE in 2000, and he and Galton received a BAFTA Fellowship in 2016 for their comedic contributions.
