Alan Brown is a novelist, film-maker, and playwright who is best known for his short film Brown Ale with Gertie (1974). The film drew attention to Alan Brown’s talent for the surreal and bizarre. His work has been described as being ruthlessly comedic, and provocative to the point of stripping the audience of their defences.
Brown’s first full-length play, Wheelchair Willie, was staged at the Royal Court in 1978. A Guardian review described it as “a calculated assault on the concept of ‘good taste.’
